Posted by Newroz Films, at 11:41PM 12/08/07 : LEYLA ZANA- Middle East Human Rights and Kurdish Turkish relations
Note: 1991 Leyla Zana became the first Kurdish woman to win a seat in the Turkish parliament. Spent 8 years in Turkish prison of her 15 years sentence for wearing a headband of traditional Kurdish colors and for addressing the Parliament in Turkish and Kurdish! Kurdish language is illegal as are the word Kurdistan, Kurdish names, the teaching of Kurdish language...
Leyla was recognized as a "Prisoner of Conscience" by Amnesty International. In 1994 she was awarded the Rafto Prize, and in 1995, was awarded the Sakharov Prize by the European parliament. She also won the Bruno Kreisky Award. In 1998 her sentence was extended because of a letter she had written that was published in a Kurdish newspaper, which allegedly expressed banned pro-separatist views. While in prison she published a book titled Writings from Prison.
With Turkey applying to become a member of the European Union, the EU repeatedly called for her release on human rights grounds, making its position clear by awarding Zana with the Sakharov Prize in 1995.
Today no Kurdish Radio or TV are allowed in Turkey, a country that aspires to join the multi-culture, multi-nation, multi-language, democratic European Union. Good luck! tags: turkey

Posted by Newroz Films, at 12:07AM 12/02/07 : Illegal Mingling in the Muslim Arabia - New York Times
Note: This was translated to Arabic in Sharq al-Awsat. But in typical Arab and Islamic media's custom of using half truths, they mistranslated the politically- and religiously-inccorect vital parts. When the truth is one day researched, then Al-Jazeera TV's or Al Ahram newspaper's artful construction of spins and the artful use of selected truth to feed on the status quo: the 'conspiratorial evil corrupt West vs. the victim innocent just Arab/Muslim World', would make Fox TV sound like the BBC! Why? Because these two media outlets, like all media in Arab world (excepting a handful in Christian section of Lebanon) are owned by Arab undemocratic and corrupt governments or by medieval sheikhdoms and kingdoms like Saudia Arabia, or by dictators sons of dictators as in Syria! tags: arab
